Exciting New Workshops for 2010 Featuring:
Robert
Johnson
June 7th-10th 2010
4 day studio workshop
Tuscaloosa, AL
Still Life and Portraiture
$635.00
(Space is Limited)
“I have always been inspired and energized
as a painter by a variety of subject matter. Still life, florals,
landscapes, figures, boat and water, as well as portraits,
all have their special individual stories and lessons to teach.
The strong and vibrant colors of a floral may at a later date
subconsciously creep into and energize a landscape. The precision
and subtlety required when painting a portrait can impart
a vitality to a later still life. The speed and artistic flexibility
required for plein air landscapes can give life to a portrait
or figure composition.”
While his material and techniques are classics, his bold brushwork
- fresh and luminous paint combined with an expert draftsman’s
eye, gives his work a transcendent quality that is uniquely
his own. American Art Collector’s award winner for
March 2010, Robert Johnson will emphasize that seeing with
freshness, honesty and great clarity is a fundament tool
to create powerful paintings and he will offer demonstrations
and individual instruction focused on exploring time-tested
principles of painting. The brushstroke itself will be emphasized
as a means of depicting form, to achieve expressive power
and maintain a painting’s freshness.
The first two days of Robert Johnson's Workshop will be
devoted to painting still life and the last two days will
be devoted to painting portraiture from a live model.
An exciting workshop not to be missed!

light travel from left to right across the painting creating
energy and movement." Lucy is a member of the Oil Painters

Kim
English
October 25th-27th 2010
3 day Plein Air workshop
Tuscaloosa, AL
$535.00
(Space is Limited)
Colorado based painter Kim English depicts
in his paintings the simple beauty found in daily life.
Known for his mastery of chiaroscuro, each piece speaks
to the true focus of English's inspiration - the harmony
existing between light and shadow.
His subject matter, ranging from a street side fruit stand
in Mexico to sun filled windows, creates a particular mood,
through which the viewer is introduced to charming scenarios
that are wrapped in depth and texture, and are entirely
about paint. This is the primary force of English's painting
- his astonishing manipulation of his medium. He maintains
a feeling of spontaneity by completing each painting in
one sitting - the alla prima method. He says of using this
method, "Immediacy is important. Not only because it
is often the nature of people, but for me it is the most
instinctive way to paint. The process is like a performance.
It's the magic of spontaneous work combined with a candid
observation of society that allows me to pursue the daily
events of ordinary people as the theme of my work."
Kim’s three day plein air workshop will be held
in various location in Tuscaloosa and Northport. With easy
access to each location your time will be spent painting
and learning Kim’s award winning masterful techniques.
This workshop will include several group demonstrations
as well as individual instruction. Join us for this exciting
plein air workshop and the opportunity to learn how to capture
the beauty of life in motion.
